The Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme at the Centre Of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Commercial will receive an RM30 million allocation from the government, announced the Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic).
The Deputy Prime Minister explained that the fund will be used for a long-term collaboration between TVET and CENTEXS to enhance the skills of the workforce, particularly in the technology and renewable energy sectors.
Ahmad Zahid stated, “The allocation will support students from various courses and help in developing high-tech laboratories and learning facilities.”
He further emphasized the importance of introducing a robotics course and other new courses related to high-tech communication to provide additional opportunities and potential for students.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National TVET Committee chairman, commended Centexs for its success in positioning Sarawak as a leader in the hydrogen and solar energy industry.
During his speech, Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Rural and Regional Development Minister, highlighted that the allocation signifies the federal government’s commitment to fostering more collaboration between the two institutions in the future.
He added, “We need to think beyond conventional boundaries. Therefore, TVET and Centexs should not compete with each other, but instead, cooperate, complement, and supplement one another.”
Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang, Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar, and Centexs chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani were also present at the event.
