Two men involved in a viral fight have been fined RM4,000 each by the Magistrate’s Court in Ipoh. Helmi Zaharuddin, 43, and Aslam Suliman, 28, pleaded guilty to hitting another man and were warned that failing to pay the fine would result in nine months’ imprisonment. The incident took place on July 27 at Jalan Batu 8, Jalan Tanjung Rambutan-Tambun, where K. Gopal, 34, was struck on the head with an aluminium rod and sustained injuries. The accused were charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or a fine, or whipping, or both upon conviction. Another individual involved in the incident remains at large.

In a separate case, Aslam pleaded guilty to injecting amphetamine and methamphetamine into his body at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division office of the Ipoh district police headquarters on October 24 last year. Aslam was fined RM1,800 under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which stipulates a prison sentence of up to two years or a maximum fine of RM5,000 upon conviction. If he fails to pay the fine, he will be jailed for three months and subjected to supervision by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for two years.
