Plans are underway for a new sports complex in Klang, which would include a football field, race track, and indoor sports arena. The proposed complex, known as the North Klang Sports Complex, is estimated to cost RM40 million and would be built in Bandar Bukit Raja. The project is expected to take three to five years to complete.

The North Klang Sports Complex would benefit residents in towns like Kapar and Meru. MPK president Noraini Roslan explained that the facility could also include a swimming pool if there is enough funding available. The proposal is based on the availability of 16.1 hectares of land in Kapar, which was provided by a property developer in Bukit Raja for recreational purposes.

Noraini says proposal for sports complex to have football field, athletic track and even swimming pool.

Local residents have expressed excitement about the potential economic benefits the sports complex could bring. Fruit trader Amir Ismail believes it would create job opportunities for locals to work at the complex, as well as attract sports tournaments and visitors from outside Klang, resulting in increased profits for local businesses.

Shahir Sham, a final year Bachelors of Entrepreneurship student, sees the complex as an opportunity for young graduates to start sports accessory businesses nearby. He believes it could also encourage the growth of small businesses related to sports and eateries in the district.

Sports teacher Fathima Mydin emphasized the need for a sports complex in the community, stating that it would eliminate the need for residents to travel to other areas for their training. She believes that having a sports complex in Kapar would encourage more people to participate in sports and lead to improved health and stronger communities.

However, Klang Consumer Association president Devadass Anjan urges the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to conduct a feasibility study before proceeding with the project. He emphasizes the importance of considering people’s views, potential environmental and social benefits, and financial viability to ensure the project’s success and avoid it becoming a white elephant.

Ultimately, the residents of Klang are hopeful that the proposed North Klang Sports Complex will come to fruition, providing them with a state-of-the-art facility for sports and recreation.
