SUNGAI BULOH: The Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons (Management), Abd Kadir Rais, announced that a total of 2,940 staff quarters of the Prisons Department nationwide are currently undergoing renovation. The renovation project has been allocated RM41mil and is expected to boost the morale and productivity of the department’s staff. Abd Kadir expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for providing the funding in July.
Speaking at the key handover ceremony for the phase 1 completion of the staff quarters at Sungai Buloh Prison on September 5, Abd Kadir stated that the renovation work includes 102 projects. To date, ten projects have been completed, including two each at Taiping Prison and Labuan Correctional Centre. The other completed projects are located at Kamunting Correctional Centre, Sungai Buloh Prison, Muar Rehabilitation Centre, Penor Prison in Kuantan, Henry Gurney School in Keningau, and Henry Gurney School in Telok Mas.
Abd Kadir reported that the remaining 45 projects have made significant progress, with over 50% of the work completed. He also mentioned that work on the remaining project would commence soon, further contributing to the enhancement of the Prisons Department facilities.
Overall, this renovation initiative is expected to positively impact the quality of work among the Prisons Department staff, thereby improving their overall performance and job satisfaction.
