The Melaka Zoo, which is the oldest tourist attraction in the state, is currently planning to undergo expansion and development in the near future.
According to Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president Datin Sapiah Haron, RM4mil has been allocated for the purpose of upgrading the zoo and introducing three new exotic species as part of the latest exhibit.
Sapiah mentioned that the zoo requires upgrading, especially during Visit Melaka Year 2024, to ensure its relevance to tourists.
The allocated funds will primarily be utilized for improving the animal enclosures and addressing other urgent needs within the zoo.
As the agency responsible for managing the zoo, MPHTJ is committed to placing the welfare of the 656 animals belonging to 320 species as a top priority.
Sapiah also noted that the three new species will be obtained through exchange programs with other local zoos and those from Indonesia.
“These three new arrivals are expected to be showcased to visitors in the near future,” she added.
