JOHOR BARU: Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that the request for financial allocation from the Federal Government for the upgrading project of Sultanah Aminah Hospital (SA) was made many years ago. The Johor Mentri Besar explained that the request made by the state government was not something new. He further mentioned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has finally listened to their request and approved the RM500mil financial allocation for the upgrading project of the hospital.
On Monday, Onn Hafiz addressed reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the MyMudah 2023 Johor State Level Conference. He stated that the hospital desperately needs upgrading as it is currently operating at 107% capacity, which is detrimental for the facility. He highlighted that the hospital is facing major limitations, such as a scarcity of spaces for patients and a shortage of beds. On several occasions, the hospital management was forced to place beds outside the wards due to overcrowding.
Onn Hafiz outlined that a portion of the RM500mil would be used to upgrade various polyclinics in the hospital to cater to patients with eye, skin, and heart-related diseases. Additionally, he mentioned that the funds would be utilized to construct a multi-storey car park within the hospital’s premises. He emphasized that the upgrading project would not only benefit Bangsa Johor but also patients from the southern regions who are referred to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatments.
During his visit to the hospital on Sunday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced an allocation of RM500mil for the initial phases of the upgrading project of Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
