The Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department has seized close to RM800mil worth of contraband, drugs, and other items in foiled smuggling attempts this year, according to Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, the Inspector-General of Police. Between January and September, the department recorded 6,476 cases, resulting in 4,356 arrests. In the same period, various contraband items worth RM789.99mil were seized. One of the successes was the Wildlife Crime Bureau’s seizure of illegal frozen food valued at RM21mil.
The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 495kg of syabu worth RM17.8mil, while the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) conducted 28 raids resulting in RM37.3mil worth of seized items. The Marine Police seized RM37.1mil worth of contraband and apprehended 64 suspects.
To increase security at the country’s entry points, the department mobilized all of its elements in a coordinated approach. This included conducting various operations utilizing assets such as armoured cars, the cavalry unit, as well as helicopters and drones at the borders.
Tan Sri Razarudin Husain commended the department for its successful operations and emphasized the importance of consistency. He urged the team not to become complacent and always strive for improvement.
