KUALA LUMPUR: Starting from this Saturday (Aug 5) until Aug 4, 2024, a number of routes in the capital will be closed to accommodate renovation work and the construction of an overhead bridge at Loke Yew roundabout, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) announced on Tuesday (Aug 1).
The affected roads are the Sungai Besi Road leading to either Sungai Besi or Petaling Jaya (across from Fraser Business Park) and Loke Yew roundabout, according to the statement. As a detour, road users can take the Kampung Pandan roundabout route to either Sungai Besi or Petaling Jaya, which will be divided into two parts: one through the road next to Federal Bakery and the other through the contra route in the adjacent lane.
“Traffic from Sungai Besi or Petaling Jaya heading to the Kampung Pandan roundabout will be redirected to the left via the Loke Yew roundabout. Since the Loke Yew roundabout will be closed, traffic from Cheras heading to Jalan Loke Yew will only be allowed to make a U-turn towards Cheras, and this traffic route is permanent,” the statement explained.
Furthermore, DBKL stated that traffic from Jalan Kinabalu towards Jalan Loke Yew and Jalan Sungai Besi will be redirected to Jalan Yew towards the Pudu roundabout. As an alternative route, road users should take the U-turn at SMK (P) Pudu. Additionally, the Jalan Yew traffic route from the Kampung Pandan roundabout to Jalan Kinabalu and Jalan Kuching will be closed during the construction period. The alternative route will be through Jalan Kampung Pandan, Jalan Imbi, and Jalan Hang Tuah,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, in order to facilitate the demolition of the drawbridge and reconstruction of the bridge at the Pudu roundabout towards Jalan Sungai Besi (next to the Pudu Police Station), the slip road from Jalan Pudu to Jalan Yew will be closed to all traffic during the same period. “Alternative routes are through Jalan Sungai Besi, Jalan Chan Sow Lin, Jalan One, Jalan Dua, and Jalan Tiga. Road users are advised to follow the signages and traffic police instructions for guidance and safety in order to avoid confusion and difficulties,” the statement urged. – Bernama
