The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has announced that a road upgrade and expansion project in Bukit Rahman Putra (BRP), Sungai Buloh, Selangor will proceed despite objections from the local community. However, MPS president Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi has stated that a briefing session will be held with residents who are against the project. The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the area, and while MPS acknowledges the residents’ objections, they must also consider the perspective of those who support the project due to the current traffic situation.

Mohd Yazid further added that the RM2.6 million project will be conducted and financed by the developer of a neighboring residential development. He explained that if the project is not carried out now, the traffic situation will deteriorate and become unbearable within the next five years, which would subsequently increase the cost of implementing the expansion project for MPS.

According to a previous report by StarMetro, some residents opposed the project as it would claim 20% of the 3.25ha Padang Awam BRP. The project aims to widen the narrow service road for nearby SMK Bukit Rahman Putra and would involve cutting down shady trees around the park’s perimeter to accommodate the road expansion.

In response to concerns about tree removal, Mohd Yazid assured that for every tree removed, two new trees would be planted in the park and surrounding area. He stated that approximately 48 trees will be cut down, but at least 96 trees of different species will be planted. The project is set to commence soon.
