Additional road markings will be added at the Subang Jaya exit on Federal Highway from the direction of Shah Alam and Klang in order to reduce accidents in the area. The exit consists of a sharp bend that leads to a fork in the road, with one branch going to Subang Jaya and the other to USJ. To alert motorists to slow down, the 40kph speed limit will be painted at the entrance of the 180m stretch. In 2018, the local council painted the words ‘SS’ and ‘USJ’ to indicate the direction on the forked road, but accidents have still occurred. Therefore, additional markings will be placed at the start of the exit to warn drivers before the road splits.
Subang Jaya City Councillor Ken Chia stated that the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) also wants drivers to adhere to the speed limit in order to avoid collisions at the fork. He plans to bring this issue to the infrastructure and public amenities sub-committee meeting and discuss the installation of concrete barriers along the road median to improve safety. The Subang Jaya and USJ residents have witnessed multiple accidents in this area.
Usain Mohamed Peer, 53, mentioned that motorists entering the sharp bend often have to abruptly stop or reduce their speed. This situation is especially dangerous during peak hours and heavy rain. Usain suggested that the MBSJ install reflective raised studs to mark lanes and prevent drivers from straying into the next lane. Additionally, a forked road sign should be added to warn drivers that the road will split into two.
Student Mastura Moen, 25, commented that the curved stretch at the fork is too short and often confuses drivers, causing sudden lane switches. She added that faded road lines, the absence of reflective markers, and poor lighting exacerbate the situation at night. Social activist Devadass Anjan emphasized the need for proper road signage before the bend to guide motorists correctly. As an immediate measure, he suggests painting the words ‘SS’ and ‘USJ’ in white with arrows 50m before the exit and again at the road bend to improve the situation.
Following complaints and a site visit, Councillor Chia met with MBSJ road unit engineer Syahizam Ahmad Niza to gain a better understanding of the problem.
