Residents in Dutamas, Segambut will soon experience better roads and walkways after enduring poor infrastructure for nearly ten years. The Segambut MP’s office and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have embarked on a two-month project to upgrade the pavements, drainage systems, and roads in the area since mid-August. The road resurfacing work, which began last Friday, specifically targets the intersection between Jalan Dutamas Seroja and Jalan Dutamas Raya, a 1.5km stretch known for severe congestion and damaged sidewalks within this residential zone. With approximately 16 condominiums housing over 4,000 residents and a French school nearby, the road is heavily trafficked.
During a visit by StarMetro, potholes and uneven drainage were discovered. Ajitpal Singh, the President of Dutamas Raya Residents Association, highlighted that these problems have persisted for over eight years, emphasizing the importance of carrying out the necessary upgrades. Yap Yee Vonne, political secretary to Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, stressed the need for good road conditions to ensure motorists’ safety. She urged the Dutamas Raya residents to remain patient for the two-month duration of the project.
Dr Abdul Basir Kunhimohamed, the Chairman of Sub Zone 5 for the Segambut Residents Representative Council (MPP), expressed his appreciation for the project’s commencement. While the work was ongoing, two residents suggested covering the pavements to prevent debris from falling into the drains. Yap responded by assuring that the drains, which were also undergoing upgrades, would be cleaned as well.
