Residents of Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah in Sibu, Sarawak, will soon see an end to their traffic congestion woes as part of the road is set to be converted into a dual carriageway. Sarawak Public Health, Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Michael Tiang announced that the tender for the upgrading work on the road will be called in the near future. The project, funded by the state, was initially planned to commence last year but was postponed to secure additional funding for the relocation of existing utilities. The presence of two schools along the road further highlights the urgency of the development.
Tiang made this announcement following his participation in a street lighting ceremony near the Taman Muhibbah food court. The RM6,000 light decoration project was financed through his minor rural projects (MRP) allocation. Clarence Ting, Chairman of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), was also present at the event.
