KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on the roads is expected to increase significantly during the fasting month, with up to one million vehicles traveling daily. Road users are reminded to exercise patience and courtesy to prevent any unpleasant incidents.
Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri emphasized the importance of being patient with one another and avoiding reckless driving during this busy period.
Speaking to reporters after distributing bubur lambuk to policemen on duty along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Comm Mohd Azman stated that between 850,000 and one million vehicles can be seen on the roads in Kuala Lumpur during the fasting month, as people commute for work and go shopping ahead of Hari Raya.
He also mentioned that police will be launching Ops Selamat 22 from April 8 to 13 in preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The operation, set to commence on April 5, aims to ensure smooth traffic flow for those returning to their hometowns.
In addition to traffic management, the police will collaborate with the crime prevention and community safety department to monitor houses and premises over the holiday period to ensure security.
Addressing the issue of mat rempit, Comm Mohd Azman stated that enforcement efforts against illegal street racing will continue. He identified DUKE Highway and other locations commonly frequented by mat rempit for targeted enforcement actions.
Youth are reminded to always adhere to traffic regulations to avoid penalties and ensure road safety. The authorities will take necessary measures against any individuals found violating traffic rules.
