MELAKA: Melaka police have reported the arrest of two suspects, 14-year-old Rohingya and 27-year-old Rohingya, in connection with the alleged rape of an underage girl. The arrests took place following a police report made by the victim’s brother at Batang Tiga police station on September 15. The victim is a 15-year-old student at a secondary school in Melaka.

According to State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah, the victim’s brother filed the report alleging that his sister had been raped after going missing from home on September 14 at 2pm. On Wednesday, September 20, DCP Zainol announced that a medical examination by Melaka Hospital confirmed a fresh tear in the victim’s hymen.

Preliminary investigation results reveal that the victim had initially befriended the younger suspect through WhatsApp on September 13, DCP Zainol stated. On September 14, the teenage suspect invited the victim and took her on a motorcycle to meet the elder suspect at a restaurant in Klebang. The two suspects then drove the victim to a nearby beachfront in a car belonging to the elder suspect, where the alleged rape occurred. Later that day, the victim was taken to a playground in Batu Berendam before being abandoned there.

The victim’s brother’s friends discovered the victim on September 15 at about 2am while she was wandering in the playground. They aided in the search before the police report was filed. DCP Zainol mentioned that the teenage suspect does not attend school, while the 27-year-old suspect is self-employed.

The two suspects, who are United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) cardholders, have been detained for seven days to facilitate the investigation. They face charges under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which pertains to rape and carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
