According to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), some members have been called in for questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding a ‘procurement cartel’ that involved construction work at one of its base camps, which totaled more than RM9 million.
RMN commander Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob also mentioned that the MACC has taken some documents to aid in their investigation, which is believed to pertain to a project completed last year.
“The RMN is fully cooperating with the investigation. We will let MACC continue their work and await the results of their investigation. RMN will not tolerate any wrongdoing by its members, and they should be aware of the consequences if they engage in illicit activities,” he told reporters after attending the Naming and Commissioning of the patrol craft (PC), KD Sri Sabah and KD Sri Sarawak, at the Tanjung Gelang RMN Base jetty on Friday (Jan 19).
Abdul Rahman stated he will wait for the report from MACC before determining if RMN will conduct an internal investigation.
On Thursday (Jan 18), three men believed to be the masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ were apprehended by the Johor MACC at the agency’s office around 6pm.
Allegedly, the arrests were made on grounds of false claims and for being the brains behind the ‘procurement cartel’, which involved 13 supplier companies overseeing construction works at the camp.- Bernama
