Waste collection in Johor will be rescheduled to Saturday (April 6) in preparation for Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, announced Rubbish concessionaire SWM Environment Sdn Bhd corporate general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin. The adjusted schedule will be in effect from April 6 to April 9, aligning with the assumption that the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri falls on April 10.
With an anticipation of a 20% increase in waste volume during this period, an additional 4,500 staff and 580 cleaning vehicles will be deployed across 15 local council areas to manage the surge. The types of waste expected to increase are food waste and bulk waste like old furniture. It is advised for the public to place their bulk waste next to their wheelie bins for convenience.
Mohd Norlisam highlighted that advancing the rubbish collection schedule by a day will also enable the company’s Muslim employees to partake in the festivities on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri with their families. Despite this, 20% of the staff will remain on standby to uphold cleanliness in Johor during the festive season.
Special attention will be given to 175 hotspots in the state with a significant Muslim population, including areas like Tampoi, Kempas, Larkin, Bandar Tenggara, Kampung Melayu Majidee, and Taman Perling, along with the main roads and city areas. The objective is to ensure that these areas remain clean throughout the festive period.
Residents are reminded by Mohd Norlisam not to block access to the wheelie bins during the festive season, as it could hinder garbage trucks from operating smoothly. Alternatively, the public can deliver recyclable items to any of the 18 Kitarecycle locations across the state to earn reward points while contributing to environmental preservation.
Some of the designated drop-off points include the B5 recycle hub, Iskandar Puteri City Council Hutan Bandar, Sutera Mall, SWM Environment Bandar Dato’ Onn, and Pura Kencana in Baru Pahat.
