The Sultan of Perak has officially opened a brand new RM460 million bridge in Bagan Datuk, spanning across the Perak River. The bridge, which is approximately 1.5km long, has been named the Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge in honor of the Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim at the opening event. They were welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Bagan Datuk MP, Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, and Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. Other notable attendees included Raja Dihilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris and Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, as reported by Bernama.
In his speech, Ahmad Zahid highlighted that the opening of the Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge would bring more visitors to the Bagan Datuk district, leading to economic and social benefits for the local community. He expressed how the bridge put an end to the long-awaited dream of the locals and emphasized the convenience it brought by reducing travel distance by 50km or more than an hour. The groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge took place in 2017, and now it is finally a reality for the people of Bagan Datuk.
Ahmad Zahid further stated that the Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge has become a symbol of pride for the people of Bagan Datuk. It has been recognized by The Malaysia Book of Records 2023 as the Longest Elevated Pile Slab Carriageway and the structure with the Most Pile Points on an Elevated Pile Slab Carriageway.
