KUALA SELANGOR: Visitors flocked to the Central Zone Madani Rakyat programme here to take advantage of the discounted essential items, ranging from RM10 food baskets to free helmets.
A total of 3,000 Madani combo baskets are available during the three-day event at the Kuala Selangor Sports Complex, which kicked off yesterday.
Muhammad Azreen Abdul Jalil, the senior assistant director of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority contract marketing division, shared that there are two types of Madani combo baskets on offer – essential goods and Agromas products.
“By midday, approximately 300 Madani combo baskets had already been sold, with 5,000 packs of local rice priced at RM26 each also up for grabs throughout the programme,” he told Bernama.
The Madani combo baskets can be purchased at the Agro Madani sales booth, which will be open from 9am to 10pm today and from 9am to 6pm the following day.
At the Rahmah sales booth, visitors can enjoy discounts of up to 30% on 34 food items, including chicken, fish, cooking oil, and rice.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) stall is giving away 1,000 helmets daily to early birds. To receive a free helmet, individuals must bring their existing helmet and driver’s license.
E. Subrayan, an 80-year-old resident of Tanjung Karang, Selangor, expressed his excitement over the opportunity to get a free helmet along with purchasing essential items.
“I had been eagerly waiting for this programme to come to our area so I could get a free helmet,” he stated.
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Mohd Nadzahar Cendana suggested that the government consider distributing helmets to children in future programmes like this one.
He found the process of exchanging and claiming the free helmet to be hassle-free and quick, with more than five counters provided by JPJ.
The Madani Rakyat programme in Selangor will be expanded to Perak, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. It is jointly organized by the Prime Minister’s Office, Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, and the Selangor government through the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit.
This initiative is a follow-up to the Madani Government One Year Anniversary programme that took place at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in December last year.
