Sabah police in Kota Kinabalu are closely monitoring suspected e-cigarette (vape) products laced with weed that are believed to have entered local markets. State Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun has not disclosed the details of their investigations, but he has appealed to the public to share any information they may have with the police. He made this statement in response to recent rumors about smokers using weed-laced vaping products, especially in pubs and karaoke clubhouses. The “weed-vapes” are said to have a similar appearance to regular vape products, but they are not refillable and are meant to be discarded after use. It is believed that these products have been imported from neighboring countries, and there have been no reports of local manufacturing.

In early October, four local men were arrested in Penampang on suspicion of distributing vape liquid containing drugs in Penampang and Putatan. The suspects, aged between 22 and 31, were apprehended during three separate raids on October 3 and 4. Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton stated that the police seized 31 bottles of ganja-laced vape liquid valued at approximately RM5,600 during the operations. All four suspects tested positive for ganja, with one of them also having a history of six previous drug-related offenses.
