During the Chinese New Year period, the Sabah police conducted an anti-gambling operation and arrested 35 people. The detainees included 23 men and 12 women, with ages ranging from 20 to 75. State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Senior Asst Comm Azmi Abd Rahim explained that a total of 10 raids were carried out in various areas, and RM54,911 in cash was seized.

Gambling paraphernalia such as cards, gambling chips, and mahjong tiles were also confiscated during the operation. The main objective of the operation, named “Op Limau,” was to curtail gambling activities, particularly those organized by individuals or syndicates seeking to exploit the festive period for financial gain.

The individuals arrested are currently under investigation in accordance with the Common Gaming Houses Act 1957. Additionally, a total of 179 officers and personnel from the state CID took part in the operation.
