KOTA KINABALU: A shopping mall in Kota Kinabalu had to close down temporarily due to a fire incident that occurred at one of its restaurants on Sunday (Oct 1).
The fire originated from the ceiling exhaust fan located in the kitchen of a basement restaurant at around 10.30am.
Hamsa Isnurdini, assistant director of operations at the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, stated that the fire was rapidly brought under control once the firefighters arrived. He declared, “We successfully extinguished the fire at 10.54am and ended operations at 11.10am.”
No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
In response to the fire, customers were immediately evacuated from the shopping mall, and retail stores were instructed to shut down.
Once the necessary clean-up procedures have been completed, the mall is expected to resume normal operations on Monday.
To inform its customers about the temporary closure, a notice has been posted on the shopping mall’s official website.
