Datuk Christina Liew believes that an annual Malaysia Day exhibition will be highly beneficial for people to learn about the history and events that led to the formation of the country. The state Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister suggests hosting the Malaysia Day Exhibition every year to coincide with the annual commemoration of Malaysia’s birth. Liew made this proposal during the official opening of the 60th Malaysia Day Exhibition 2023. The exhibition, themed “Malaysia Madani: Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope,” was launched by Liew on behalf of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC) in Penampang.

Minister Liew praised the State Archives Department for initiating the exhibition, emphasizing the importance of the younger generation visiting the booths that present the history of North Borneo (now Sabah) and Malaysia. She stressed the significance of understanding how Sabah achieved independence in 1963 and later joined Malaya, Sarawak, and Singapore to form the Federation of Malaysia.

Aside from highlighting the state government’s Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) initiatives, the exhibition also showcases the role, functions, and programs of ten state ministries. These ministries include Community Development and People’s Well-Being, Industrial and Entrepreneurship Development, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Youth and Sports, Tourism, Culture, and Environment (KePKAS), Finance, Works, Rural Development, and Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food Industry.

Accompanied by Deputy State Secretary (Development) Datuk Dr Ahemad Sade and exhibition organizing committee chairman Shirley Sion, Minister Liew visited several booths featuring various departments such as the Chief Minister’s Department (JKM), Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Sabah Tourism Board (STB), State Archives Department, Land and Survey Department, Forestry Department, Printing Department, and State Railway Department.
