The Sabah government has announced a RM600 air ticket subsidy for all local students studying at higher learning institutes in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Labuan. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor revealed that an allocation of RM10 million has been set aside for the air fare subsidy during his visit to Penang.

He joined students from Sabah during a buka puasa ceremony on Monday (March 25) where he made the announcement. The one-off special assistance of RM600 will be provided from the Chief Minister’s special allocation, and the subsidy will be given directly to students. Hajiji stated that detailed information about the subsidy and the payment mechanism will be worked out at a later date.

This special assistance can be utilized by students at any time to return to Sabah, providing them with financial relief for their travel expenses. The subsidy aims to ease the financial burden on students studying outside of Sabah and enable them to visit their families and loved ones more frequently.

The initiative is part of the Sabah government’s effort to support local students pursuing higher education in other parts of Malaysia. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to prioritize the welfare and well-being of Sabahan students, ensuring they have the necessary resources to pursue their academic aspirations without facing undue financial strain.

By providing this air ticket subsidy, the government hopes to encourage more Sabahan students to pursue education opportunities in Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Labuan. The subsidy is a gesture of support and recognition of the challenges faced by students studying away from their home state.

Students can use the RM600 subsidy to cover the cost of their air tickets when traveling back to Sabah for holidays, family gatherings, or other personal reasons. This financial assistance will alleviate the expenses associated with air travel, making it more accessible for students.

As part of the government’s initiative, the subsidy will be directly disbursed to eligible students, ensuring a seamless process for accessing the financial aid. The Sabah government is committed to ensuring that the subsidy reaches those who need it most, benefiting students from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

Chief Minister Hajiji emphasized the importance of supporting students in their academic pursuits and ensuring that they have the necessary resources to succeed. The air ticket subsidy is a practical measure to alleviate the financial burden on students and facilitate their travel between Sabah and other states.

Details about the application process and disbursement of the subsidy will be communicated to students in the coming weeks, providing them with clarity on how to access the financial support. The Sabah government’s decision to implement this subsidy reflects its commitment to investing in the education and well-being of its youth.
