Chicken prices in Sabah remain unchanged after the removal of subsidies and price control measures. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) director for Sabah, Georgie Abas, stated that although subsidies for chicken prices have been discontinued, KPDN will continue to monitor the market to prevent price manipulation and unreasonable profits. Abas conducted a survey of chicken prices in various areas and found that supplies were sufficient and panic buying was not occurring. KPDN officials will conduct regular spot checks to ensure compliance with existing laws regarding the sale of food stock and other controlled items. Awareness and educational programs will also be conducted for traders and customers.
In the period between January and October 31, KPDN Sabah conducted 68,400 inspections across the state. During these inspections, 1,162 cases were recorded under various acts, resulting in a total compound of RM189,450. The total value of seizures amounted to over RM5.6 million, and fines of RM123,000 were issued. Abas emphasized that KPDN officials will remain vigilant for any suspected wrongdoings under the law.
