Sabah has been chosen to host the 26th Miss Tourism International (MTI) Pageant 2023 World Finals in November, according to Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew. A total of 45 countries will participate in the event, which is expected to enhance Sabah’s tourism reputation globally. Liew expressed her excitement by stating that Sabah will be in the spotlight when the 45 countries arrive in the state, “The Land below the Wind.” The signing ceremony for the appointment of EventLab Works & Supplies Sdn Bhd as the host organiser of Miss Tourism International 2023 World Finals witnessed Liew affirming the full support of the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) and her ministry as the hosts to welcome the Miss Tourism International delegates. Liew added, “We will make sure to extend Sabah’s warm and kind hospitality. We want to make it a memorable experience for them to enjoy all that Sabah has to offer. I am very proud that Sabah has been chosen to host this event.”
The 17-day Miss Tourism International Tourism event will commence on November 10, with the final and crowning of Miss Tourism International scheduled for November 25 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC). This event is expected to garner publicity for the state and place Sabah in the Pageantry World News. Liew expressed her gratitude towards Tan Sri Danny Ooi, owner and president of Miss Tourism International, for selecting Sabah as the venue for the prestigious World Finals. She also congratulated the joint organising chairpersons, Xandria Ban and Genie Chua, along with her team for taking on the tremendous responsibility of organising such a significant event.
Reigning Miss Tourism International 2022 queen, Miss Suphatra Kliangprom from Thailand, and Miss Tourism Global 2022, Chrystal Huang from Singapore, were present at the event, as well as local beauty queens Phoebe Ong (Miss South East Asia Tourism Ambassadress 2022) and Ellen Rachel (Miss Malaysia Tourism Metropolitan 2022).
Tan Sri Danny Ooi stated that Sabah was chosen to host the MTI World Finals due to its diverse offerings. He highlighted activities such as the International Friendship Garden, where each delegate will plant a tree, as a way to promote tourism, culture, and friendship. Ooi emphasized that the event will provide extensive exposure to Sabah’s local culture and traditions, with the belief that first-hand experiences are the most effective form of advertising for the state.
