Sabah Umno has expressed satisfaction with the decision to drop the graft charges against Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad. According to Sabah Umno Information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, the acquittal and discharge of Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette by the Kuala Lumpur High Court is a testament to the delivery of justice. In a statement, Suhaimi highlighted that Bung Moktar and his wife were provided with an opportunity to defend themselves and justice was ultimately on their side.
Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette had cooperated with the law and presented their defense in court. Suhaimi assured that Sabah Umno would continue to support and stand by Bung Moktar in his political undertakings, as they believe him to be a person of integrity. With the resolution of his court case, he can now concentrate on strengthening the party and serving the people.
Earlier today, the court granted the revision application filed by Bung Moktar and his wife to overturn an order for them to present their defense in a RM2.8 million corruption case. Judge Azhar Abdul Hamid stated that the court exercised its revisionary power under Section 323 of the Criminal Procedure Code as it deemed it a suitable course of action. After examining the records of the proceedings, the court found no evidence that prosecution witnesses 24 and 25 had given money to Bung Moktar through his wife. Consequently, the decision of the Sessions Court to request Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette’s defense was deemed a miscarriage of justice.
