The 60th Malaysia Day celebration in Sabah will take place at the historic Town Padang in Kota Kinabalu with various exciting events. Although the national-level celebration will be held in Kuching, Sarawak on September 16, thousands of people are still expected to attend the grand occasion in Sabah. The celebration will commence with a pre-show event at 7pm.

The celebration in Sabah will be graced by Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and his consort Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, along with state Cabinet members, will be attending the national-level celebration in Kuching and will be represented in Sabah by Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

The celebration in Sabah will start at 8.10am with the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags by the Royal Malaysian Navy, followed by the singing of the national and state anthems. Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, who is also the chairman of the state-level Malaysia Day organizing committee, will deliver a welcoming speech. This will be followed by the Chief Minister’s speech and the symbolic launching of the celebrations with the cutting of a Hari Malaysia 2023 cake.

In addition, there will be a handing over of Jalur Gemilang by the Kembara Merdeka 2023 convoy, which has been touring the state since last month in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. The attendees will also enjoy a special performance titled “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope), which is the official theme of the national month this year. The event promises to be a colorful spectacle featuring cultural shows and a concert with local artistes such as Francis Landong, Esther Appolonius, Dabra Sia, and Elya Guntabid.
