KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has stated that the state’s development agenda aims to share its wealth for the benefit of all communities, regardless of race or religion. In a speech delivered during the swearing-in ceremony of the Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations, Hajiji emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing Sabah’s development and ensuring equal distribution of wealth among its people.
Hajiji emphasized that the state government under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has received solid support from all communities, including the Chinese community, which has played a crucial role in propelling Sabah’s development forward. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support of the Chinese community, highlighting their partnership with the government in various developmental sectors.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister noted that the success of the government’s efforts is reflected in the increased revenue and economic growth of the state. However, he assured that the government will continue to attract more investments and generate economic spin-offs for the benefit of all Sabahans.
Hajiji reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fair wealth distribution by allocating funds to schools and non-Muslim religious bodies in Sabah. This year alone, the state government has provided a grant of RM54.05 million to Chinese and mission schools, as well as non-Muslim religious bodies.
Highlighting the success of the Chinese community, particularly the Hokkien clan, in various businesses, Hajiji urged them to continue working together with the government to further develop Sabah. He expressed the government’s eagerness to create more business opportunities that would contribute to the state’s overall development.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the significance of the Hokkien community in Sabah, praising their notable presence as the largest Chinese clan in Malaysia and the second largest clan in Sabah, after the Hakka clan.
