Cosmetics entrepreneur Safiey Ilias, 29, whose actual name is Mohd Safiuddin Ilias, has raised a preliminary objection against two of the four charges of sexual offences he is facing at the Ampang Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur. Safiey’s lawyer, Harjeet Singh Sidhu, argued that the two charges related to sexually communicating with two male victims lacked specific details, making it difficult for the defence to cross-examine the prosecution witnesses. Harjeet also stated that the Child Interview Centre recording of the victims and the live Instagram recording, which form the basis of the charges, have not been provided by the prosecution.

The defence’s objection was brought up during the court proceedings, prompting Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan to request time to address the issue. In response, Judge Norhazani Hamzah ordered both parties to submit written submissions by August 7. The preliminary objection will then be heard between August 16 and 24. As a result, the trial scheduled for the current week has been adjourned, and new trial dates have been set for September 4, 5, 11, and October 2.

Safiey is facing two charges of sexually communicating with two victims through his Instagram account at his residence in Bandar Baru Bangi on June 9, 2021. Additionally, he is also accused of two counts of non-physical sexual assault against the victims at the same location and time. These charges fall under Section 11(1)(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum prison sentence of three years, and Section 15 (a)(i), which carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both upon conviction. The case is being handled by Bernama.
