In relation to the investigation into the theft of rare earth elements (REE) in Bukit Enggang, Sik, Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has expressed his willingness to fully cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He stated that any authority is welcome to conduct investigations related to REE or involving the state government’s administration.
The Mentri Besar’s Office is always open to receiving visits from the authorities on any raised issue, as quoted by Sinar Harian.
“I am fully committed to cooperating with investigations carried out by any authority. I have consistently made it clear, since assuming the position of Mentri Besar, that my office and I are open to being investigated by the MACC or any agency,” he said.
Muhammad Sanusi also extended an invitation to the authorities to contact him at any time.
“Feel free to come and investigate 25 hours a day, eight days a week. If I’m unable to answer the phone, you can reach me via WhatsApp,” he jokingly added.
Tan Sri Azam Baki, the chief commissioner of MACC, stated that the anti-graft agency has already summoned 12 witnesses in relation to the corruption and abuse of power in the theft of REE in Kedah.
All the witnesses who have been called have provided statements to assist in the investigation. Several more witnesses, including Muhammad Sanusi, will be summoned in the near future.
On July 19, the MACC arrested the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Kedah Mentri Besar Corporation (MBI) and a company director to assist in the investigation of REE mining activities involving bribes worth over RM13 million.
