The demand for a public apology and written promise not to repeat allegations of theft and misuse of funds has been issued to Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution by Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. Sanusi’s lawyers have given Saifuddin a week to comply after he made these statements at a press conference and in written statements on July 15.
The incumbent Jeneri state assemblyman has threatened legal action against the Pakatan Harapan secretary-general if he fails to follow through. Sanusi is also seeking compensation for the damage to his reputation caused by the allegations.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin had challenged Sanusi to clarify whether he received a compound letter for the alleged theft of rare earth elements in Kampung Chong, Sik. The Pakatan Harapan secretary-general claims the letter was issued to the Chairman of the Kedah Menteri Besar Incorporated. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has since remanded a Kedah MBI CEO and a company director over corruption and abuse of power related to the theft.
