SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s legal team is planning to submit a representation to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) in an attempt to have two sedition charges against him dismissed. These charges are related to comments he made concerning the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar and the establishment of a Unity Government during a political talk.

Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud, the counsel for Muhammad Sanusi, informed the court that his client has instructed him to send the representation to the AGC within the next four months. He emphasized the importance of addressing some key matters that are not covered in the existing documents and requested that the trial date be postponed until a decision is made on the representation.

On the other hand, Deputy public prosecutor Abdul Malik Ayob suggested that the trial date should be set, but he had no objections to the defence submitting the representation. He also mentioned that the prosecution team would be providing the defence with a list of around 10 witnesses who will be called to testify.

Following these discussions, Judge Aslam Zainuddin decided to defer the decision on the representation to May 3 and scheduled the trial to be held on July 22, 23, 26, 29, and 30, as well as August 5, 6, 9, 12, and 13.

When the sedition charges were read to Muhammad Sanusi after the case was transferred from the Selayang Sessions Court to the High Court on February 1, he maintained his plea of not guilty. The charges are in connection with statements allegedly made by him at a location in Gombak on July 11 last year.

These charges, brought under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948, could result in a fine of RM5,000 or a maximum imprisonment term of three years, or both, if Muhammad Sanusi is found guilty. – Bernama
