KUCHING: Sarawak’s goal is to transform into a global aviation hub comparable to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), once its airlines are operational.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg mentioned that achieving global aviation hub status would lead to significant economic opportunities for the state.
“If we use the Dubai model, we will be able to bring additional economic benefits to our people. That’s why we want to take over and establish our airline in order to balance airfare prices and offer other added values,” he stated during the opening of the Sheraton Kuching Hotel on Sunday (Feb 18).
Abang Johari had previously stated on Dec 20 last year that the acquisition of MASwings Sdn Bhd by the Sarawak government is expected to be finalized in the second or third quarter of this year.
He further mentioned that the Sarawak Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, are currently conducting due diligence on the matter in collaboration with the federal Ministry of Transport and Khazanah Nasional Berhad. – Bernama
