Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Premier of Sarawak, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Federal government in restoring the rights of Sarawak and Sabah as outlined in the Federal Constitution and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

During the national-level Malaysia Day celebration at the Indoor Stadium in Kuching on Saturday, Abang Johari stated that although Sarawak and Sabah are demanding certain matters under MA63, it does not imply a lack of willingness to work with Peninsular Malaysia in strengthening unity.

Abang Johari emphasized that Sarawak’s intentions are solely focused on reclaiming their own rights and not grabbing the rights of others. The government of Sarawak, led by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), will provide full support to the unity government until the next election.

The celebration was attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Acting Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, who was the guest of honour. The theme of the event was “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan” (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope).
