KOTA KINABALU: Parti Sedar Rakyat (Sedar) has undergone a renaming process with the aim of expanding its presence nationwide.
The party’s president, Datuk Othman Abdillah, announced that they had received the approval from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on August 7 to operate on a national level.
During the annual general congress held on August 27, 2022, party members endorsed the amendment to the party constitution, which changed its name from Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak. This change was officially approved by the ROS.
“With the ROS’s official approval, the party has started accepting membership applications from individuals outside of Sarawak,” Othman stated in a press release on Wednesday (September 13).
For the formation of the Sabah branch, Prof Ariffin Willie and Julia Ongkili have been appointed to lead the initiative in Sabah, revealed Othman.
Othman explained that the decision to expand nationally was driven by the interest and support received from Sabah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
He believes that this expansion will allow the party to further its advocacy for the rights of the people to directly benefit from the wealth generated by the exploitation of their abundant resources, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
“Sedar invites all concerned citizens, community leaders, and advocates for economic justice to join us in this important journey towards a more equitable and prosperous future for all,” Othman urged.
