KUCHING: Three secondary school students are missing after the boat they were travelling in sank in Sungai Kayan at Kampung Selampit, Lundu on Tuesday (Aug 20) morning.

The state Fire and Rescue Department said the boat was ferrying 10 to 20 students and sank at about 6.10am.

“Twelve of the students have been rescued while three are still missing,” the department said in a statement.

The missing students are a 15-year-old boy and two girls aged 14 and 17.

The search for the missing students is ongoing by Fire and Rescue personnel and local villagers, and the department has deployed its water rescue unit and a dog from its K9 unit to assist in the search.
