The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, has confirmed that he is currently overseas and in good health.
He stated that doctors have advised him to rest and he will return to Sarawak once he receives clearance.
“I am currently well and still abroad.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all the Sarawakians who have prayed for my well-being,” Taib said in his Sarawak Day message released by Astana Negeri on Friday (July 21).
Last month, the Astana released a statement dismissing rumors about Taib’s health, stating that he was in good health.
It clarified that all viral and unverified news about the Governor’s health were false, following social media claims that Taib was sick or deceased.
Meanwhile, Taib acknowledged the significance of Sarawak Day in recognizing the ongoing efforts of Sarawakians in developing the state.
“I am confident that with the leadership of Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak will achieve its goal of becoming a developed state by 2030,” he said.
He also urged Sarawakians to uphold unity in diversity, peace, and harmony, as these are essential for the state’s success.
Sarawak Day, observed on July 22, commemorates the state’s attainment of self-governance from the British in 1963.
