SEPANG: Selangor plans to designate satay as a heritage food in order to promote the state as a destination for this popular delicacy.
The proposal to declare satay as a state heritage food will be presented to the state executive council by the end of this year, according to Selangor state Heritage and Malay Customs Corporation chairman Borhan Aman Shah.
“Although satay is available nationwide, it is most renowned in Kajang, a district in Selangor,” Borhan stated.
He further mentioned that the proposal is expected to receive approval in early 2024, and the official gazettement would be announced by the Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
The ongoing Fiesta Sate Selangor, held at Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort in Bagan Lalang, Sepang, will feature a total of 100,000 sticks of satay.
Notable attendees of the event include high-ranking officials from Selangor’s local councils and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
There will be an emphasis in the promotion of satay as a significant cultural and culinary symbol of Selangor through various initiatives and campaigns.
By designating satay as a heritage food, Selangor aims to preserve and showcase the historical and cultural significance of this traditional dish.
This move also aims to attract both local and international tourists to explore the diverse culinary offerings of Selangor.
The recognition of satay as a heritage food would further solidify the region’s reputation as a food paradise.
