KUALA LUMPUR: Despite three Perikatan Nasional leaders being called up by police, the Save Malaysia rally will proceed as planned on Saturday (Sept 16), according to coordinator Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard. Chegubard, speaking to reporters outside Dang Wangi police headquarters on Wednesday (Sept 13), expressed determination to continue with the rally despite what he perceived as authorities’ attempts to intimidate them. He mentioned that the details of the rally are still being finalized, with an announcement to be made once everything is sorted out.

In conjunction with Malaysia Day, Chegubard called on all Malaysians to participate in the rally, which aims to champion freedom of speech and voice concerns related to the dropping of charges against Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, despite the prosecution initially finding grounds for the case. He expressed high expectations for the turnout, with thousands of participants anticipated for the event.

When asked about the rally’s route, Chegubard stated that it would take place in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, but the exact paths are yet to be finalized. He emphasized that safety is of utmost importance for all participants, and their security will be prioritized during the planning process.

In response to inquiries regarding the possible involvement of the red shirts led by Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, Chegubard stated that it is their right to gather and join the rally if they wish to do so. He reiterated the organizers’ support for freedom of speech.

Earlier in the day, police recorded statements from Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Fadhli Shaari, and Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham. Fadhli expressed full cooperation with the police and emphasized their respect for law enforcement. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal highlighted that the issue of the police prohibiting the rally should not have arisen, as the organizers had already submitted a notice about the rally on Sunday (Sept 10).

“The police did not ask about the rally at all or tell us not to have the rally on Saturday. They only asked about the press conference announcing the rally,” said Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who also mentioned that the organizers would hold a meeting to finalize the details.
