KUALA LUMPUR: According to Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the organisers of the “Save Malaysia” rally did not fully comply with the Peaceful Assembly Act in their initial notice submission. The Bukit Aman CID director mentioned that the organisers failed to include important details such as the names of the organisers involved and the venue for the rally. He stated that these individuals have experience in organising demonstrations.
When asked about the possibility of a counter rally by the “Red Shirts”, Comm Mohd Shuhaily stated that the police require a five-day prior notice for rallies and the venue must be mentioned. He mentioned that no notice has been given by the organisers, and their intelligence suggests that the venue keeps changing. He added that their latest intelligence indicates that the rally may take place at one of the mosques in Kampung Baru. The lack of clear confirmation by the organisers could cause inconvenience to road users.
Comm Mohd Shuhaily hopes that the organisers will act more responsibly. He stated that the police will not obtain court orders to bar certain individuals from specific areas as they do not wish to overreact. They will only prepare themselves for the rally as long as public order is not at risk. Their goal is to avoid inconveniencing the public and align with the government’s aspirations. Necessary legal action will be taken against the organisers, as they are aware of the legal implications.
