    KUALA LUMPUR: In a twist of events, a scam victim has found herself in hot water after being arrested for filing a false police report. The woman had alleged that two individuals posing as police officers extorted RM25,000 from her. However, Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail revealed that discrepancies were detected in her claim. As a result, she was apprehended at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters on July 12 for fabricating the report. ACP Mohd Azam disclosed that the authorities confiscated the original police report and three bank receipts dated June 20.

    The investigation took an unexpected turn when it was uncovered that the suspect had concocted the report to conceal her own activities from her husband. The authorities discovered that she had pawned gold on June 20 and used the money to settle a debt with what is believed to be a group of scammers. This revelation came about after incisive questioning by the police.
