Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki stated that the opposition’s only remaining option for removing the current administration is a vote of no confidence. This comes after the Prime Minister challenged the opposition to propose a vote of no confidence.
Asyraf also commented on the statutory declaration (SD) signed by some members of the opposition, stating that it showed their fear of expressing open support. He urged the opposition to stop unhealthy polemics and wait for the upcoming polls instead.
According to Asyraf, it is just a four-year wait until the general election is held, giving the opposition an opportunity to become the government through fair means. His statements were made in response to the claims by Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor about obtaining enough SDs to overthrow the government.
Muhammad Sanusi did not provide details regarding the number of SDs obtained. Asyraf criticized Muhammad Sanusi for playing a game of perception and questioned if his actions brought any benefit to the state’s economy and the people of Kedah.
He also emphasized that the Agong had made it clear that he would not entertain SDs to change the government. Additionally, Asyraf pointed out that the opposition only had 69 MPs in Parliament, which falls short of the required 112 for showing support, leaving the opposition at a disadvantage.
