HULU SELANGOR: Search and rescue operations for a young boy who fell into Sungai Desa Alam Ria have been called off after an extensive seven-day effort. The announcement was made by Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim in a statement on Tuesday (July 11). Despite the efforts leading personnel to a garbage trap near Bestari Jaya, approximately 32km away from where the boy went missing, he has not been found.
Although the official search and rescue operations have been called off, the Fire and Rescue Department will continue with smaller-scale efforts, focusing on specific locations. Supt Ahmad Faizal emphasized that the department will keep searching for the missing boy.
The total number of personnel involved in the operations thus far includes 17 police personnel, 27 members of the Fire and Rescue Department, six volunteers from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, and 10 individuals from the Jabatan Amal Malaysia. Additionally, the police deployed three personnel and a drone from their Drone Unit to aid in the search efforts.
The incident occurred on July 5 when a seven-year-old boy dove into the river to retrieve a slipper that had fallen. He was then carried away by the strong currents. Supt Ahmad Faizal urged parents and guardians to never leave children unattended in order to prevent such accidents from happening.
