KOTA KINABALU: A search and rescue mission is underway for a 60-year-old man who is believed to have been attacked by a crocodile in the Tawau district.
The Fire and Rescue Department received a notification from the district police at 7.03am today (July 20). The incident occurred at Kampung Sungai Mas Mas-Nasip Kita.
A team from the Tawau fire station was dispatched to the location, which is approximately 70km away. The local police are providing assistance as well.
According to a department spokesperson, the witness reported that the victim was attacked by the reptile around 4am on Wednesday (July 19) while approaching his boat.
The search team, with the cooperation of the police, is conducting a surface search along the river within a 3km radius from the scene of the incident,” the spokesperson added.
The operation was temporarily halted at 6pm and will resume on Friday (July 21).
