HULU SELANGOR: Search efforts are still underway as authorities continue their search for a young boy who reportedly drowned in Batang Kali.
In a statement released on Saturday (July 8), Hulu Selangor’s Officer-in-Charge of the Police District (OCPD), Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim, confirmed that they had received information about a seven-year-old boy drowning at Sungai Desa Alam Ria on July 5.
According to investigations, the boy had jumped into the river to retrieve a fallen slipper when he was swept away by the strong currents of the water.
Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim stated, “Search operations began immediately and are still ongoing at this time.”
A dedicated team of two police officers and 32 policemen are currently involved in the search operation.
The search efforts have been further bolstered by the involvement of 27 members from the Fire and Rescue Department, as well as a police drone unit.
The search area has been expanded to cover a 20km stretch of Sungai Rasa.
When reached for comment, Mohamadul Ehsan Mohd Zain, Assistant Director (Operations) of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, revealed that the search operation has been divided into two sectors.
He also mentioned that the department’s two highly trained dogs from the K9 unit, Blake and Pop, have been actively deployed in the search efforts.
