The search for a man who was attacked by a crocodile in Kota Belud has been expanded by rescuers. A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman stated that the search area has been extended to 10km along the river where the man went missing near Kampung Rampayan Laut. On Sunday (Sept 24), a land search covering three sq km from the riverbank was also conducted.
The incident took place on Friday (Sept 22) when Yusri Dulpi, a 20-year-old man, was fishing at the Mantanani jetty and was attacked by a crocodile that dragged him into the water.
Meanwhile, the Department’s Mountain Search and Rescue (Mosar) unit assisted a Malaysian climber who had sprained his ankle on Mount Kinabalu. A spokesman for the unit reported that they received a call from a porter at 9.33am regarding the incident.
The 33-year-old climber had twisted his ankle and suffered injuries to his left palm. The Mosar unit provided first aid with the help of Sabah Parks and other porters. They then used a stretcher to bring him down to Timpohon Gate, the starting point up the mountain.
After the climber was brought down, he was taken to Ranau hospital, located approximately 15km away. The operation concluded at 4.16pm.
