A security guard has been charged with the murder of a one-year-old baby in Butterworth. The baby is believed to be the son of his lover. The accused, S. Nagendren, 34, acknowledged understanding the charge, but no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, Nagendren is accused of causing the death of Muhamad Hayder Mukhriz Abdul Fatah between 6.25pm on August 23 and 4.50pm on August 26. The incident took place in an apartment at Pangsapuri Ampang Jajar.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Asma’ ‘Amira Shahidani, is in accordance with Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of death if convicted. The accused did not have legal representation during the proceedings.
The court has set March 6, 2024, as the date for mention pending the submission of the chemical and post-mortem reports.
Prior to this, the media reported that a teenage girl, her boyfriend, and seven other individuals were arrested to assist with the investigation into the death of the boy. The boy was treated at Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ) as a suspected victim of abuse.
