The Segulai Sejalai musical, which took place at Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching on the night of Saturday, September 16, received enthusiastic applause from the audience of over 5,000 people. The 20-minute performance consisted of three segments, showcasing the struggle for independence in the peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak, spanning from the past until the present day.

The musical paid tribute to freedom fighters like Rosli Dhobi and Mat Salleh, who played crucial roles in defending the country against colonial oppression. The chants of “Merdeka” (Independence) and “Segulai Sejalai” (together in unity) resonated throughout the performance, creating a vibrant atmosphere during the celebrations held to commemorate Malaysia’s formation six decades ago.

Among the notable guests in attendance were Acting Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar and his wife Puan Sri Fatimah Mohd Iskandar, as well as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, alongside several Cabinet ministers, were also present at the stadium. Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his spouse Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, as well as Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his spouse Datin Seri Juliah Salang, were also part of the audience.

The opening ceremony commenced with Anwar, Abang Johari, and Hajiji signing the Malaysia Day Special Book, followed by a video presentation highlighting the historical moments of Malaysia’s formation in 1963. The event continued with the Kembara Merdeka convoy procession and the raising of the national flag, accompanied by the national anthem, Negaraku.

Concluding the ceremony, the Jalur Gemilang song was performed, and the audience recited the Rukun Negara pledge. – Bernama
