The Selangor government has unveiled the Selangor Government Data Exchange (SelGDX) portal, a comprehensive platform for sharing big data among agencies and the public sector in the state. The launch occurred on Friday (Oct 20) during the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention 2023 as part of the Selangor International Business Summit 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

In a statement, the Selangor state administration declared that the development of the portal makes Selangor the first state in Malaysia to establish a data-sharing platform that spans across agencies. The system aims to facilitate secure, swift, and accurate sharing, access, and processing of data, encouraging the use of technology and promoting good governance practices.

SelGDX went live on Oct 13 this year, following its pre-launch event in July last year. Over 70 state agencies and departments collaborated in developing the portal. The implementation of SelGDX was a joint effort involving the state government’s Information Management Division, the State Secretary’s Office, and TM One (Telekom Malaysia’s Business, Enterprise and Public Sector Solutions Unit), a strategic partner.

According to the statement, the collaboration encompassed various tasks such as design, installation, development, integration, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and provision of support services throughout the development phase of the project. The government aims to transform the public sector into a more modern, visionary, and people-centric entity through smart governance, as part of its commitment to making Selangor a smart, liveable, and prosperous state by 2025.

The presence of this big data sharing platform is expected to serve as a catalyst for technology-based economic development and enhance the quality of government services in the state.
