PETALING JAYA: Three police reports have been lodged over the controversial action of British band The 1975 during the Good Vibes Festival, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The Selangor police chief said the reports were lodged at the KLIA police headquarters on Saturday (July 22) as the incident touched on the sensitivity of the Malaysian society and made fun of the country’s law.

Those involved in the incident have been called up, he said.

“We are investigating under Section 509 and 504 of the Penal Code as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act.

“We urge the public not to speculate on the incident,” he said.

Comm Hussein said the police also supported the decision by the Communications and Digital Ministry as well as Sepang Municipal Council to cancel the event for security reasons.

The decision was announced after minister Fahmi Fadzil summoned the organiser of the festival, Future Sound Asia, to explain the controversial incident involving the British band during the concert that took place at the Sepang International Circuit.

The media reported that the band’s performance at the festival was cut short after frontman Matt Healy’s disrespectful actions when he was seen performing while holding a bottle of alcohol and slammed Malaysia’s LGBT laws.

The organiser also extended its apology to all ticket holders, vendors, sponsors, and partners.
